Students without an assigned parking place should park in the area between the softball and baseball fields. Mrs. Sills will contact any student who is not graduating due to insufficient credits before the mandatory graduation practice on Thursday, May 25th, 2017. Only students who have earned the required number of credits may participate in the Commencement Ceremony. PLEASE DO NOT CALL MRS. SILLS, SHE WILL CALL YOU.
Graduation practice is MANDATORY for all seniors participating in the ceremony. Practice is at 9:00 am until noon on Thursday, May 25th, 2017 in the gym. Upon entering the gym, you will receive a seating chart and notes about practice. You do not need to bring your Cap and Gown to practice. Bring a pen or pencil. The gym will be cold for practice, so dress accordingly. Practice is held so that you will know the procedures for the Graduation and Baccalaureate ceremonies. Out of consideration for and in fairness to others, be present and be on time. We can not start practice until everyone is seated. Do not schedule outside activities or work before noon on the day of practice. Plan to leave as soon as practice is over. Do not bring children or guests to graduation practice. On Thursday, May 25th, you will receive your math/science honor cords, your College Ready honor cords, and your Vocational Completer cords.
CAP AND GOWN
Cap and Gown packages will be distributed after returning from breakfast on Friday, May 12, 2017. Seniors will report to the Main Office Conference Room to pick up caps and gowns. You will need to wear the cap and gown for both Baccalaureate and Graduation Exercises. Gowns should be taken home and placed on a hanger. DO NOT IRON THE GOWNS, STEAM ONLY. Medals, stoles, and honor cords awarded at Awards Night are the only adornments for the graduation gown. Boys will need to purchase a black tie to wear with a white collared shirt. Caps should be placed on the head so the cap (mortarboard) is level, with the tassel on the right side. The front of the cap will be indicated on the inside. Caps are not to be worn on the back of the head. Remember, there are no refunds for students that did not meet the graduation requirements.
BACCALAUREATE AND GRADUATION ATTIRE
Men: White or light-colored shirts with a collar, black tie, dark pants, shoes and socks.
Ladies: Dress or nice pant outfits; shoes should be white, bone or black. (Black is preferable). For graduation wear flat shoes as you will be walking in sand and heels sink into the sand. High-heeled shoes are not recommended.
Baccalaureate is Thursday, May 25th, 2017 at 7:00 PM in the gym. Seniors, be in the Auditorium at 6:15 to line up. Tickets are NOT required for the Baccalaureate Service. Members of the graduating students’ families are encouraged to attend. The slide show will be shown at the end of the program.
Tickets will be issued for admission to the graduation ceremony. Seniors will be issued TEN tickets for entry into the Agri-Civic Center. Everyone, including infants, must have a ticket. Please consider that infants and very small children do not enjoy nor do they remember the graduation ceremony. Tickets will be issued at practice on Thursday, May 25th, 2017. TICKETS MAY NOT BE SOLD, YOU MAY GIVE EXTRA TICKETS TO YOUR FRIENDS.
The Graduation ceremony is Friday May 26th, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Agri-Civic Center. Students should be seated no later than 6:00 PM. Traffic is a nightmare, so allow plenty of time to arrive. A suggestion is to leave home no later than 5:15 PM. Display your parking passes so that you can park in the special graduate parking section. There will be no eating or drinking in the assigned areas. Students believed to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol will be removed from the line by administration. Deputies will be on duty, and if necessary, will remove any student displaying inappropriate behavior during the graduation exercises. Graduates will receive their diploma folders as they walk across the stage and will pick up their diplomas following the ceremony.
Graduation is a milestone in that the graduate is embarking on life as an adult, thus the term Commencement is used to refer to the ceremony. Graduates are beginning a new stage of their lives. It is traditional that the ceremony be marked by seriousness of purpose as well as by a degree of formality. Loud, boisterous remarks by either graduates or their guests are entirely inappropriate.
Pictures will be taken of each graduate by a professional photographer as he or she receives the diploma. Those pictures will be available on-line in a few days after graduation. All graduates will be given a postcard with website and password so that each student/family can access the pictures to place order.
ALL-NIGHT GRAD PARTY
After graduation, there will be a party for graduates at the Chobee Skate and Bowling Alley beginning at 10:00 PM. All graduates (and approved dates) attending the party must be at the Bowling Alley no later than midnight. The all-night party is made possible through the joint efforts of the community and school. Graduates are allowed to bring approved dates. There will be a sign-up sheet during semester exams and then in the office. Students that remain at the party all night will be eligible for a cash drawing and prizes.
Congratulations on reaching this very important milestone in your life!
